The American Gold Eagle coin is the official gold bullion coin of the United States Mint. First minted in 1986, the Gold Eagle is arguably the most popular gold bullion coin available and is coveted by gold bullion investors worldwide. The 1/4 oz American Gold Eagle coin is historically unique. Dating back nearly 200 years, gold coins minted by the US Mint had a lower gold content. The modern design is alloyed with copper and silver to give the coin more strength and durability. The coin’s obverse is a beautiful version of the $20 Saint-Gaudens gold coin, which the United States Mint minted from 1907 – 1933. The obverse features the remarkable Augustus Saint-Gaudens design of Lady Liberty with her flowing hair watching over the US Capital building in the foreground. This truly American coin has “Liberty” above the feature and includes the date it was minted.
On the reverse is sculptor Miley Busiek`s iconic “Family of Eagles” design. The design features a female eagle in her nest watching over her newborn hatchlings. Flying above the nest is the male eagle clutching an olive branch in its talons. The design is widely acclaimed and is a perfect example of American freedom. You will also find the United States of America engraved above the feature. Also included is the Fine Gold content, USD face value, E Pluribus Unum, and In God We Trust.
